Other News:

Please label your child’s extra clothing with their name. This
will help greatly with making sure winter clothes don’t get mixed up J.

Our classroom is in need of disinfectant
wipes, snack baggies, tissues, and glue sticks anything that you
could send in would be greatly appreciated!

The Challenges team is beginning to plan for our annual Autism
Awareness Week that will be held in April.
More information will be coming home soon. Please contact me if you have any
questions/suggestions for our week.

January in Challenges 1
I hope you all had a wonderful
break with your child! I hope they’ve
enjoyed our few snow days. If you have
pictures of your child playing in the snow please email them to me, we love to
have show and tell during circle J.
Current Unit:

The
Gingerbread Man – Our students have enjoyed reading our
modified version of “The Gingerbread Man” and we’re working on recognizing the
repeated story line!
Future
Unit:
·
Our
Senses in the Winter – Now is a great time to start
talking to your child about what to wear when it is cold out and having them
work on dressing themselves. We will be
reviewing different things that we see, hear, taste, touch, and smell in the
winter.
Important Dates:
·
There
is no school for students on Monday
January 13th and Monday
January 20th.
·
Due to cold weather we will not be going to Field of Dreams
in the month of January. Our next trip
to Field of Dreams is tentatively scheduled for Thursday February 20th from 9:45 – 11:45. Please look for forms to come home next month.

Current Unit:

Fun
at the Pumpkin Patch – we are talking about our experiences
at the farm and we’re using our pictures to communicate the things we liked
doing at the farm.
Future Unit:
·
Thanksgiving
– we will learn about fun activities that we do on Thanksgiving and we will
focus on using vocabulary words that will help your child communicate on
Thanksgiving.
Important Dates:
·
Mrs.
Lacey Petersen is donating her time and talent to have a fundraiser for
Challenges on Saturday November 16th
from 10:00 – 4:00. She is an amazing
photographer and is booking sessions to take your family photos. ALL of the proceeds will go directly to
Challenges’ field trip funds. Please
look for more information on how to sign up on the flier that we are sending
home. This fundraiser was very
successful last year!

Our next trip to Field of Dreams is scheduled for Thursday November 21st from
9:45 – 11:45. Please look for forms to
come home soon.

Parent teacher conferences will be held on the evening of Monday 11/26 and on the afternoon of Tuesday 11/27. Sign-up sheets will be coming home soon –
please consider signing up for a conference!

had a GREAT time at Summer’s Pumpkin Patch.
Please review the books that we are sending home about our experiences.

If

enjoyed our trip to the fair! We were
able to see all of the animals, play on some tractors, eat lunch, and visit the
fire trucks J.

Our
students loved their first trip to Field of Dreams for therapeutic horseback
riding! Thank you all for returning the
forms so quickly! We’re looking forward to
our next trip which is tentatively scheduled for Thursday October 24th
(9:45-11:45). I encourage all of you to
try to chaperone one of these trips as it is a great experience. Field of Dreams offers private lessons as

We are off to a great start to our new school year! I’m excited to work with each of my students and your families!
Current Unit:
· Back to School – We are learning about our new teachers, classroom, and daily routine. We learned new vocabulary words and took a tour of the rooms in the school we will be using.
Future Units:
· Frederick Fair – We will prepare our students for our field trip to the fair.
Other News:
· Our wonderful classroom staff this year includes: Ms. Kathy Layman, Ms. Lindsay Burdette, Ms. Becky Smith, and Ms. Karen Shiblie
· Ms. Diane Freed is our Speech Language Path, Ms. Obenland is our occupational therapist, and Ms. Flores is our physical therapist. Your child has met their service providers and started to work with them this week!
· Field of Dreams – Our program is lucky enough to participate in a therapeutic horseback riding program about once a month. Please look for forms to come home soon with more information for you and your child’s doctor to fill out.
